Ten by Ten

A project by:
2021

There is no denying the evocative power of food and its ability to serve as a tangible reminder of who we are, particularly for individuals living far from home. Working as a teacher in South Korea for many years and longing for a taste of the familiar, Jessica (with the help of her husband Dongseop) opened an American-style restaurant out of her home on Jeju Island in 2018. While they acquired a steady customer base over the years, the couple’s recent appearance on a popular national television program has attracted an unprecedented number of new diners seemingly overnight. Now, not only must they adjust to an overwhelming influx of curious customers, but also adapt to being thrust into the public spotlight.

Exploring themes of food, home, and identity, Ten by Ten is an intimate portrait of Jessica’s journey through these events as she learns to navigate the blurred boundaries between public and private life.
