Konger FC: A photographic exhibition
The exhibition features images by Tse Hei Long, Jolynna Sinanan and Alastair Lomas and highlights the ways in which the Hong Kong diaspora in Manchester have built their lives through the Konger FC and Konger Café. It was the first event from the collaboration between Jolynna Sinanan and David Stroup (Department of Politics, University of Manchester).
Marching to Remember
During the several days drive from my home in Minnesota to my primary fieldwork base in New York, I stopped for an evening's rest in Cleveland, Ohio. Police cars and barricades lined the city's streets - remnants of the day's protests in response to the recent acquittal of Michael Brelo, a white police officer involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black couple.
On Being Self-Reflexive
The beginning of July marks the end of the second term at Austrian universities, which means that the main part of my fieldwork has already ended. Up until now I attended twelve events organised by Christian student societies (several of them took a whole weekend) and interviewed 13 participants. After an intense period in the field, which isn't entirely over yet, it is time for a first recap.
Grasping at Rotten Straws
This summer, I went back to my hometown of Smederevo, a small town in Serbia 40 kilometres away from the capital city of Belgrade, in order to explore the everyday lives of Serbian youth and the challenges that they face due to decades of political, social and economic uncertainty.
The Right Man for the Job
This summer, I returned to my hometown for fieldwork in a Chinese hospital. The hospital accepted me as an "informal trainee", which means I could observe all the healing and teaching activities taking place.
