Konger FC: A photographic exhibition

Football, Hong Kong identity and community in Manchester

ESRC Festival of Social Sciences, November 1 – 5, 2025

The exhibition features images by Tse Hei Long, Jolynna Sinanan (GCVA staff) and Alastair Lomas (MAVA, PhD) and highlights the ways in which the Hong Kong diaspora in Manchester have built their lives through the Konger FC and Konger Café. It was the first event from the collaboration between Jolynna Sinanan and David Stroup (Department of Politics, University of Manchester). It is based on Stroup’s long-term ethnography with the politically-marginalised diaspora of Hong Kongers who have relocated to Manchester on British National (Overseas) passports due to repression of activism and cultural expression by the PRC.

The School of Social Sciences Community Partnership fund supported the development of the Konger FC website, which launched in December 2025. https://kongerfc.org
