Chod – The Journey Into Cutting the Self

A project by:
2023

Set up in the Boudhanath area of Kathmandu, a Tibetan Buddhist community, the documentary explores the tantric practice of chod. Chod (gCod), translated as cutting, is one of the few Tibetan Buddhist practices developed by a female practitioner. Known only to a few highly trained yogis, chod has become accessible to the public over the past 15 years and is now widespread in places like Nepal, the US, and the EU.

The documentary follows the experiences of newly initiated chopas, expert monks, and a yogi as they pursue cutting attachments to the self and reaching a state of emptiness or enlightenment. This is an invitation to sit with the Buddhist tantric tradition of chod and experience a move beyond representation.
